Turkish Immigration and Citizenship Law

Turkey’s immigration framework is governed by the Law on Foreigners and International Protection (Law No. 6458) and the Turkish Citizenship Law (Law No. 5901). The Directorate General of Migration Management administers residence permit applications, while citizenship applications are processed by the competent authorities under the Ministry of Interior.

We assist individuals, families, and businesses with the full range of Turkish immigration matters, from initial residence permits through long-term settlement and citizenship applications.

Citizenship by Investment

Turkey’s Citizenship by Investment programme allows foreign nationals to apply for Turkish citizenship through qualifying investments, subject to the eligibility, minimum investment, documentation, valuation, and holding-period requirements in force at the time of application.

We advise clients on Turkish citizenship by investment and related real estate transactions, from initial eligibility assessment and investment structuring through application preparation and coordination with the relevant authorities. The process may involve property due diligence, valuation review, land registry procedures, compliance documentation, and submission of the citizenship application.

Real Estate Route: Practical Considerations

The real estate investment route requires careful attention to property valuation, title verification, payment flows, land registry annotations, and the specific documentation required by the authorities. We conduct independent due diligence on target properties, verify that the transaction is structured to satisfy applicable requirements, and advise on the legal and tax implications of property ownership in Turkey.

Residence Permits

Turkey issues several categories of residence permits, each with its own eligibility requirements and duration. Short-term residence permits may be available for property owners, business-related purposes, students, and other qualifying categories. We prepare and submit residence permit applications through the relevant systems and represent clients in cases of refusal or cancellation.

Work Permits

Foreign nationals who wish to work in Turkey generally require a work permit issued by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. The application process depends on the applicant’s status, the employer’s documentation, and the nature of the work. We advise companies and individuals on eligibility, documentation, renewals, and compliance obligations connected with foreign employment in Turkey.
